SAC Takes Center Stage at Fremont St. WoodStock Revival Event in Vegas
Another exciting SAC appearance in August 2009 downtown Fremont St.Las Vegas, where the 40th Anniversary of WoodStock Event was happening for a full weekend.
It was quite amazing to see... it looked like New Years Eve down there... thousands and thousands of people shoulder to shoulder for the whole length of the Fremont St Experience.
The event took place on three stages along Fremont St. with multiple tribute bands alternating all night till 12:30 am... Janis Joplin, Credence Clearwater, Jimi Hendrix, Grateful Dead... etc... etc...
Two of the three stages were being handled exclusively by SAC systems. An awesome thing to see and hear.
I spent a few hours with Lee Pepper who was running the center stage using the SAC System we just built this week... shooting video of the event... which you can watch from the link below.
We started purchasing the parts on Monday... 4 days before the event... had the 5 ft shock mount rack case built locally in two days... built the computer and installed and assembled the rack of Behringers during the week, and rolled everything into the van and out onto Fremon St. on Friday for soundcheck.... what a way to break in a rig huh?
I must say it was amazing to see an event of this size being handled by a SAC system. The FOH mix position was a simple folding table with a computer monitor, keyboard, mouse and one BCF2000 8 chan fader controller... the one 5 ft rack of mic pres and the computer... that's it... no large console and racks of processing gear...
The mix sounded awesome... amazing transient response and tight low-end... punchy with a bright clarity and intensity that was incredible... it was amazing to see Lee mixing with his Sony V-6s... when I put the phones on to hear his mix and then took them off, I was amazed at the translation... the stacks sounded identical to what was happening in his phones... what a way to work...
There was no monitor engineer... everything was hadled from the FOH position... so Lee was responsible for the FOH mix and 8 stage mixes... and to watch him sitting back comfortably just fliiping around the screen... tapping arrow keys to trim levels... hardly ever even touching the controller... and there was no panic or frantic jumping around... every thing just flowed smoothly since he had his mix and routing layed out well... using multiple Subgroup latches as VCAs for most of the important things in the setup.

SAC Opens the Gordie Brown show at the Golden Nugget in Vegas
The first Las Vegas Hotel SAC appearance took place the first week of Feb 2009 as SAC premiered on stage at the Golden Nugget.
SAC is handling 5 musician in-ear monitor mixes on stage, while Front Of House is being handled by a Digico Digital Console. Two of the musicians are using laptops on stage to take complete control of their mixes, since there is no monitor engineer involved.
A video of the system construction, installation and setup is coming soon.
SAC Opens the new Legends In Concert show at Harrah's in Vegas
The second Vegas Hotel SAC appearance opened last night Feb 23, 2009 at Harrah's hotel. This is a fairly intense technical setup with SAC handling FOH with up to 58 input channels, including 18 RF mics, plus doing 8 monitor mixes, both in-ears and front floor wedges, as well as two sets of side fills on stage. A remote laptop is also used on stage by the musicians to adjust their mixes during the show.
Three SAWStudio systems are also tied in on the wired / wireless network outputting mulltitrack audio and backup, as well as three separate video tracks feeding 4 large video projection screens along with some live camera action. The SAWStudio master system is generating SMPTE to feed the Lighting board.
Harrah's is one of those older hotels with the sound booth up in a fairly closed off balcony, so the use of a wireless laptop gives the engineer a chance to come down into the room where the action is and make mix adjustments from there whenever he wants.
There is a lot going on in this production... band, singers, dancers, set design changes, lighting, and 4 large video projections, as well as live camera feeds... quite a test of SAC and SAWStudio's power.
